The Announcement of RTX 3070 Ti & 3080 Ti are Postponed

The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti announcement has been postponed by two weeks. The original date of May 18th has been changed to May 31st. We have confirmed that NVIDIA is planning to announce both the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti on the same day. However, product reviews will be split, with RTX 3080 Ti being introduced on June 2nd and RTX 3070 Ti reviews going live on June 9th.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will feature GA102-225 GPU with 10240 CUDA cores enabled. This model will offer 12GB GDDR6X memory, which is indeed just 2GB more than RTX 3080, but thanks to the wider bus of 384-bit the maximum bandwidth will increase by 152GB/s. The RTX 3070 Ti, might be one of the most interesting cards in the NVIDIA lineup yet. This is the first Ampere gaming card to feature full GPU specs, in this case, the GA104-400. The RTX 3070 Ti will offer 6144 CUDA cores and 8GB GDDR6X memory. While 8GB is indeed less than RTX 3060 with 12GB, the RTX 3070 Ti allegedly gets GDDR6X modules, which would provide a bandwidth increase of 160 GB/s over RTX 3070 non-TI. It seems that the RTX3080Ti / 3070 TI is all about the memory upgrade.

While this is the fifth update to AIBs on the launch schedule of both cards, it is actually the first time NVIDIA confirmed the exact dates of both SKUs. So yes, it seems to be final, but at this point, we can’t promise it won’t change again.

NVIDIA RTX 30 LHR Series to Begin Shipping on Mid May

NVIDIA has provided an update to its partners in regard to upcoming GAxx2 chips. Those Lite Hash Rate(LHR) series GPUs will feature a new cryptocurrency mining limiter and most likely RezisableBAR support without a need for a vBIOS update.

NVIDIA is expecting GAxx2 chips to start shipping in the middle of May, which means that first customers may receive their cards in June. With the ‘quiet launch’ of the RTX 30 LHR series, the supply of Ampere GPUs is expected to improve. NVIDIA has not yet provided an explanation of what exactly has been changed that would limit mining performance on the new chips. The previous attempt to introduce a software limiter with RTX 3060 has spectacularly failed after NVIDIA ‘accidentally released a driver without it. This SKU will also receive a new version with a reintroduced crypto limiter.

One of our sources says that RTX 3090 might be the only card that will not feature the crypto limiter, which is simply not needed as mining profitability on this SKU is low due to the high price of the card itself. However, this SKU is still expected to receive a new GA102-302 GPU, which suggests it might simply be a ReBAR update.

NVIDIA is Expected to Unveil its RTX 3080 Ti on May 18th

ITHome reports on a forum post from Expreview forums. These forums are no longer public, so this is pretty much the only way to see what is being shared there. According to one of the posts, NVIDIA has now provided a full launch scheduled for its RTX 3080 Ti graphics card.

It is alleged that GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will be announced on May 18th with reviews going up a week later on May 25th. The previous date that was reported, May 26th is actually a release date, which in this case means “availability” in stores.

  • May 18th: Announcement
  • May 25th: Reviews
  • May 26th: Release Date

The specifications of the RTX 3080 Ti are no longer a secret to anyone. The graphics card will utilize Ampere GA102-225 GPU with 10240 CUDA cores. The GPU will be attached to 12GB GDDR6X memory clocked at 19 Gbps. This means that the graphic card will have 912 GB/s bandwidth, a 152 GB/s upgrade over RTX 3080.
