AMD’s next-generation RDNA 4 GPU architecture for the upcoming Radeon RX 8000 series graphics cards has recently started seeing Linux kernel driver support. Two new GPU IDs – GFX1200 and GFX1201 – were added, likely referring to two mid-range Navi 4X chips with speculated codenames of Navi 44 and Navi 48.
While the performance positioning and specs of these chips are still unknown, their numbering doesn’t necessarily indicate performance level. AMD has clarified that Navi 4X numbering is not representative of market segment. The two IDs are currently identical in behavior to existing RDNA 3 GPUs, but wider architectural differences are expected as these GPUs are still over a year away from launch.
